Hello all,

Just graduated college and I am Moving back to Monterey county. I got involved with the diving/ kayak fishing game a bit in high school
And college but I am looking to go full bore now that I am in the post grad life. Job keeps me busy, but not busy enough to stay out of the water. I have an ocean prowler 13 and I am looking to finally outfit it with a sonar/ Gps unit. While price is a concern, durability is probably the biggest because no one ever rolls in a kayak right amiright!

Curious what some of you seasoned vets have to say or about experiences you had. Reviews about certain models would be ideal as Black Friday is right around the corner.

Fish on,

Joe

Joe,

One of the BEST deals you will find this week will be the Elite 4 HDI for under $200 @ West Marine.  Though this unit is the most susceptible within the Lowrance lineup to possible corrosion or water intrusion due to the rubber door over the chart chip slot, it is still IPX7 rated (1M underwater for 30 minutes).  If you have a little more in your budget, I'd look strongly at the Elite 5 CHIRP (newest generation/technology unit) or one of the recently discontinued Elite 5 HDI units.  Both of these feature a far better chart chip door/cover and are also IPX7 rated for that unanticipated roll, wave, splash or harsh use situation.  There are a few deals rolling this week on these units.

Here's a link to another thread I started recently on this very subject....

Feel free to hit me up if you have questions.  I'm local to Monterey area.
