Eric Jackson's review was pretty interesting.....I'd say most of the "improvements," he lists are kinda kooky but you can't argue with a high quality latch and good insulation.....most coolers these days have super crappy latches. 

Do those steel corner pieces double as a bottle opener?  That might take one more item off the kook list if they do.

Yep. Bottle opener on each corner.
