Hi All,

My brother-in-law is looking to buy more lead for jigs he is making. Our local recycling center does not sell lead anymore.

We are in the Sacramento area.

Additionally, if you have any information where to buy lead let me know.

Thanks!

Do a search here for lead. There is an auction in about a week for 8000lbs. I looked yesterday and no one had bid yet.

Look around in Craigslist. From time to time i see people selling them as cheap as $1/lb. I'd jump on those and buy in bulk. This way, you'd be set for a long time. Or, you can also go with used wheel weights option if you can get them for free at your local tire shop. You might have to sort them out though as they will have mixture of other wheel weights metal in them.

Most weights now are steel. Not many cars rolling with lead weights anymore.

Put an ad on craigslist " Poison Lead Outlawed in California" lead from shot, bullets, sinkers tire weights, bars, keel weights ect. We dispose of lead in a manner that prevents the endangered birds and mammals in our State from becoming poisoned by this horrible substance call 555 1212 for pick up or drop off location. Site the law or print portions of it on the page. You should get enough green idjits  keep you supplied for life. When they ask what you do with it say you encapsulate (paint or powder coat it in substance and dispose of it safely similarly to how the govmint has disposed of other toxic substances ( at bottom of ocean sometimes just like nuclear waste.

Pure lead is hard to find, old stain glass soft lead is great, but again hard to find. I use old wheel weights, Rob is right the new ones do melt down, but are not lead. Mixed with old lead wheel weights they are ok, but you don't get perfect jig heads, 90% of the ones i pour don't get the barbs down past the head. That being said i have around 10 five gallon buckets of it, and go through jig heads like water so i don't mind. I walk around Les Schwab, and Big O, after the close and pick up a few.

Find an area that's been shot up to hell and sift the lead out of the ground.  You'd be doing that environment a good deed by removing the lead.
I did this at a local shooting spot years ago.  Went home with 2, 5 gal buckets  filled various sized bullet.

One solution, find a deposit and open a mine! Start mining, milling, and putting people to work in the mining industry here in California. We have the mineral deposits, but somehow we feel it more dignified in letting that take place outside of our backyard. Folks, if you can't grow it, you have to mine it. Modern mining practices are environmentally friendly with proper oversight.

Scuba dive reefs where the commercial fleet have trolled for years. Reef from Tomales buoy to buoy near Bodega Head. Plenty of lead dropped from Ft Ross to Stewards. Usually around 20 fathoms deep but shallower on a underwater sea stack. Tolo banks. Tons there. 50# balls will keep the pour going for a long time.

We used to get ahold of old car and truck batteries and break them apart, then melt the crap down in a bonfire in the woods. Lots of lead in them. Most likely the reason why everyhthing vibrates all the time and I sometimes to stoopid shit. Why eat paint chips when you can just eat the lead?
