I am new to kayaking and my wife and I went to the delta last weekend to just to get a feel for the kayaks. We launched from Lazy M as
I had been there one time before and it is the only place I knew of. Anyways it seemed kind of steep to charge $10 per kayak to launch and once out we were buzzed by ski boats the entire time. One guy on a jet ski said there was a place just down the road where boats are not allowed and suggested it would be a good spot for us to try. Does anybody know if this is Clifton Court or possibly Bethel? Or does anybody else have any suggestions for a different place that may be good? By the way we are fishing so a good fishing spot would be helpful also. Thatnks for any tips.

it's been ages since I last fish Clifton court. Never once did I see yaks on the water. the stripers can be caught on shore so not sure if it's worth yakking in there. Plus it can get very very windy. I did heard some mention of float tubes a while back but not sure. If you want to fish the slough you don't have to launch at Lazy M. just drive up the road and launch where there and look for moderate openings. Lazy M is ideal if you want easy access.

Bethany reservoir can be windy too. if you go, you will get a workout. I would not go there.

are you primary fishing fresh waters? try fishing at shadow cliff.

must practice self rescue if your not familiar. sooner or later you will have to use it.

Kayaks are not allowed in Clifton Court Forebay.
This is a true statement. No vessels at all whatever it might be in the forebay.
You can ride around it on a bike. And there are some big fish in there. I used to spend all night fishing back when I was younger. The side that boarders Old river has wild asparagus growing there. There are two other areas in that vicinity one is Widows Island and another spot up Italian slough both are on the Old River side. The ski boats are nonexistence. The problem with all of this is you really need to know the delta and are willing to paddle a few miles. A good place to fish with slow boat traffic is Discovery Bay. Now is a good time to fish for stripers there. Someone here has posted a few hookups there lately.
Good luck
