I live in Santa Rosa. My family likes to go out to Doran Beach and hang out.   I thought sometime I would go ahead of them and troll for Halibut on the Ocean side of the Beach and then meet them when they arrive.

Anybody catch anything but crabs out there?  I don't want to paddle out to the salmon area but stay in close.

Any tips or advice is welcome!

Thanks

Yes,, halibut can be caught in Bodega Bay.. Drifting dead chovies works. If you can jig up some live bait to drift, that can be even better.

Do you drift inside the bay or on the ocean side?

Thanks.  I found that post and am trying to work out the details to get free to go Monday.  Where's Nicks?  I've never launched out on tamales bay, though I'm familiar with the area.  Also a newbie to halibut fishing.  Went last weekend with Bushy but didn't get any.  Should I bring frozen hearing or anchovy?  It seems like the sabiki is hit or miss there.

I haven't been there in a long time, but if memory serves, there is a marina, pier, ramp, etc. just north of Nick's - Miller, a county park,  I think. It's in Marin county by Marshall...

Thanks.  I just looked it up too.  It's west of Marshal.  Actually fairly easy to get to from home!

you can catch Halibut inside Bodega Harbor also. live bait or jigging grubs or scampi on 1-3oz jigheads . I hooked halibut on 1 oz jigheads w/ white kalins 6" grubs that I cut about a 1/2 inch off.

I got one between the jetties a few years ago. Gotta watch the boats coming in and out, and asshats casting at you from the east jetty.
