Only had that happen to me once out East, but luckily I was on a lake where I was able to make an emergency landing on the island in the middle of it to weather it out.. Couldn't imagine being miles from shelter on open water. :-|

Rod higher than head = better conductor... Paddle hard and pray is all you can do :confused2: Had the good sense last time out at the Oneill forebay F&C to get off the water before All hell broke loose. Some others didn't (Warned everyone on radio) Very tense time watching buddies paddling threw a fairly severe storm with large hail and nothing you could do to help.  :smt103
my new name should be Ostridge. Got my head in the sand. Going fishing and letting go of the other stuff I can't control anyway!

ANY sign of lightening get the hell off the water ASAP!
Even if it's clear where you are it can hit you from 10 miles away.
At the very least stash the rods.
Plus his paddling technique was lacking; all arms.
