Will be driving down to Oxnard this weekend and staying at Pt. Mugu naval R.V. park. Their is a little cove that I want to try right next to the rv area. Private beach for military etc. so a partner and I will be staying there saturday night then fishing sunrise sunday from aforementioned beach. Any suggestions for bait would be helpful will be taking my sabki setup for live bait. Will be hunting pearch, bonita, barraccuda and what ever else is legal in the area. I understand that lobster are also found in these waters.
Any suggestion welcome.

Just finished talking to my partner and he is going to bring his snorkel gear. The latest wheather report says that it will be clear on Sunday with off shore winds. Sounds good to me.
Mooch only a half dozen?

Frank,
The factor to consider is your convient campsite is placing you in the shallow beaches of the riverbed with the prime spots being a little south where the cliffs are having much better fishing because of well established kelp beds, deeper water. So go south 10 miles to unload the kayaks and snorkeling gear. Either Trabucco Canyon, Point Dume or Trancas are excellent fishing sites and pretty safe launches.
Post a invite to rendezvous here, they are the locals:

You will see other kayakfisherman at those locations, no one fishes near the base, except for Halibut during their season in March.
Good luck, the kelp beds have live bait fish galore. Real small Sabiki rigs work good, bring chum. Let the Sabiki rig soak 30sec (with light upward tension) eventhough you have one or two on because the activity attracts the rest of the bait to strike on the other hooks.
Craig
P.S. Watch the offshore winds like a hawk, don't go more than 1/2 mile out if they are avg strength. Buy Kelp Leashes if you can and/or bring extra rope. If there isn't any wind then your campsite could work if you paddle south for 3-4 miles and then out 1/2.
