I was apartment searching in the last few days, and there is a canal just south of Davis.

Anyone know what is up with it?  It looks bassy (via satallite at least).  I don't know if it is yakable, but it is definately tubable.  Dang, I haven't been in my float tube in years.......pretty much when I got my first kayak.....

Anyway, I am now in full deal with it mode to get to Davis by the end of the month, so I will be very in and out.

It is probably the Yolo Bypass or a part of it.  It is an overflow channel for the Sac River.  Lots of fish in it.  We used to fish it from the bank when I was a kid.

You might be looking at Putah Creek or Willow Canal.
They are south of Davis and run east to west.
I believe Putah creek then runs along 128 towards Berryessa.

My buddy Naoaki went to Davis and still fishes Putah creek when he goes back to visit his girlfriend.   He's on this board, but rarely visits...      Uminchu Naoaki is his handle.  You could try PMing him and mention it to him next time I see him.

don't they have special regs to fish Putah? Barbless and artificials only? Fished there once loooooog time ago....water was stained due to rains...didn't catch a thing but saw some big trout rolling along the eddies.

From Coastside

Today I came upon a school of stripers and caught numerous fish to 14" in the South fork of Putah creek. How these fish made it all the way here is not so much a mystery as it is an accomplishment. But what was more exciting was taking these fish on 4# line rigged to drop-shot for perch. The water level at the moment is less than 3ft and the clarity is superb which also added an element of fun as actually seeing the fish attack your bait (cut nightcrawlers) is really neat. Interestingly, the fish would not bite anything else; rattletrap, popper, spinner, joint swimbait, it did not matter--they only wanted worms. Has anyone ever seen/caught striped bass in Putah? I have fished that creek for five years and never seen one let alone even heard anecdotal evidence of stripers.

Ran into another Coastsider (did not get his name) at the gas station while buying bait. He and friends were returning from pulling pots and it sounded like they are in for a delicious New Year's Eve dinner.
