Heading to Ocean Cove with my buddy next weekend to do some fishing. He's a ab diver/fisherman as well so he knows the good diving/spear spots, but hasn't strictly fished there much.

Any tips on good spots/depths to try out?

Planning on using shrimp flies with squid, big white grubs with 4oz heads and tube baits.

I'll be installing my Lowrance Elite 4X HDI so I'll be good there.

Picked up a 3mm farmer John wetsuit, have a NRS PFD, fish grip, spare paddle, whistle, bilge pump, rod leashes/paddle leash.

Won't have a VHF as funds aren't allowing unfortunately. We'll be buddied up though.

My question is, looking at the swell report Saturday is predicted as 7.5 at 9secs.

In the cove, how does that actually translate. Actually, is it even worth fishing in the cove?

Sounds like u got ur bases covered.
I think you'll get more fish north or south of the cove.
A lot of fish north up to Gerstle or
To the south by Stillwater there is a wash rock that holds a lot of fish.
Be careful of that one though, it got me once.
Sounds like it ma be a bit bumpy , but doable.
Good Luck

That translates to rough around the edges.  Not much wave energy makes it all the way into the boat ramp.  I would not be interested in a 7.5ft day myself, but I don't hook and line.  I'm not sure what the use is of bringing a kayak if you are going to stay in the cove.   It is pretty shallow.  It can be fished from shore, and it gets a lot of pressure already from divers.

If the swell is big stick to the north wall of the cove. I have always had luck about 400 yards up the wall and 50 yards off. There is a big bird s<%t rock on the wall about that area. 50-70' blacks, blues and olives from surface to 50' . If you get a small one pin it on and send it to the bottom for a ling.

I fish there often, that swell and frequency will churn it up, viz might be nada. Wouldn't go outside the cove in that if it was me, not that I cant fish it, I just don't kike puking. If you go, depending on the tide, with swell and surge like that, there are a series of boiler rocks on the left as you paddle out, stay right. They will get ya.

Thanks guys. Look like the forecast is down to 6.5' for Saturday. Hoping it goes down some more or I may postpone.

Sucks as I have Friday off  :smt010

The forecast I looked at said thurs is pretty flat, building late friday and into sat, level off on sunday then drop again. Aint that the luck? Smooth during the week and bumpy on the weekends!
