Hey guys. I just wanted to post up a tip that might help a few of you otw, especially for noobs or guys who may have an issue with sea sickness.

Quick leaders. My leaders consist of a swivel, 40# Pline and a dou lock snap. I tie maybe 10 leaders prior. I daisy chain them all together... clasp to swivel, clasp to swivel, etc. Basically making one long strand. I then wrap the leaders around a old line spool. I add a couple rubber bands and done.

So when I'm otw and I've just broke off, I just remove the old broken leader from my main line- Pline Hawaiian clasp pictured (IMO the best clasps you can buy) and pull a new leader off the spool and attach. This saves tons of time and can be very helpful for those who tend to get sick tying leaders otw.

See yall at Albion!

I used to love those swivels until I started losing jigs with them.
Somehow the jig would work it's way between the jaws and come off.
Happened a few times so I stopped using them.
I love these guys.

Mike, I wont use the Hawaiian snaps on my jigs, they are way too long and most times they wont fit anyway. I only use them on my main line, they never fail when attached to a swivel.

What I do for Cody,  and myself now, is tie whole rigs, three way with shrimp fly and either butterknife jig or jig head, roll in a ziplock sandwich bag. Break off, unsnap, snap new one on, back in the fight. I like your idea a lot Mike.
Live your life, the way you want to be remembered. Don't have any regrets, we only get this one dance to make it count. Start at your eulogy, and work backwards.

Those are called McMahon snaps Mike and I have been using them for Sturgeon for 25 years. Many companies sell them, but that is the actual name. I have used them this year for ocean fishing too. They are strong. I use size 4 or 5 for ocean depending on the species targeted, and #6 for sturgeon. Make sure that your swivel is big enough or the ring will hang up on the snap and hang sideways.

I'm using this.

BTW, this is probably a common knowledge, but I learned it hard way - when fishing in rocky area leaders (I'm using 20lb mono) degrade over time.

I use 25lb leaders. I usually tie a few with a teaser, link them to each other and wrap around a slice of pool noodle and put it in my bait bag. After a few outings loosing all my rigs, i decidedl that's not going to happen again, and yes im one of those people that get sick after 5 minutes of tieing or concentrating on one thing and not posting attention to the water.

Off topic: what's difference between leader material and main line material? I use main line 25lbs as leader (my main line is 50lb braid) If just doing rf, lings, etc. With leader no more than 5ft. Does it make a difference. Or is it just a marketing thing? Is it the flexibility? Durability?

Personal preference.
Some people like to have a little stretch (give) in their line. It acts as kind of a shock absorber. There is zero stretch with braid so the longer the leader, or in this case 'top shot' (40+ feet) the more stretch you'll have.
Now if you don't like tying on a lot of new leader to main line and prefer an absence of hardware a 20 foot 'top shot' is a good way to go.
You can just cut of the abraded portion of the line and retie your jig.
If you don't want to go either of those ways then the method that Wingshooter described is ideal.

To my knowledge there is no difference. It's sold in shorter lengths and called "leader" is all. I have a bulk spool of 30# Maxima that I use for "leader" material. My main line is 45 lb. braid.
