I am working up in Sebastopol next week. I have a buddy up there who has never fished from a yak so I am going to bring 2 up there.  I was thinking of taking him to berryessa or Sonoma. I have not fished either of these lakes before. I was hoping to find some advice on a good spot to go.

I would appreciate any info.

Thx!

For a launch at lake Sonoma check out yorty creek. It's a hand launch area without PB's. It has lots of trees in the water and is a no wake zone.

Other options for an easy kayak trip could be spring lake in Santa Rosa. Or you could do something really crazy and float a portion of the Russian River.

If you're going to fish on a weekend I would definitely suggest Lake Sonoma over Lake Berryessa!  Much less ski traffic on Sonoma especially if you launch out of Yorty Creek.

Spring Lake can have decent fishing but is pretty nasty in my opinion.  Being located right in the middle of Santa Rosa means lots of garbage and I wouldn't recommend eating anything out of there.

Another option would be Lake Hennessey over near Napa.  It's a little closer than Berryessa, is a beautiful clear water reservoir, and the bass bite has been great lately.  It's a drinking water reservoir for the city of Napa so there is no body contact allowed.  However, there is also a 10hp maximum limit on the lake so boat traffic is a non-issue.

Forty Creek would be a great option. Nice and peaceful out there since it's far from the jet ski/wakeboard area...

Thanks for the tips. I appreciate it. I'm now leaning towards hennessey. I will post up a report next week.

I agree with king.  I was out at hennessey on sunday and the little guys are on a frenzy.  Water was marked around 74 degrees and there was a lot of bait balls I was marking a few feet below the surface.  Spring lake is great too but much smaller from what I remember.  It's been a while since I made my only trip up that ways.  Good luck.
