Went out today for another great day with good weather.  The trade winds have been blowing strong for the last month so it has been great to get out.  I trolled fresh bait and tried using a drop back loop with a rubber band as a release, it worked allright, but I am still working on the patience after the initial strike.  I had one big hit that took a lot of line, no hook up.  I think it was a Aha, a very toothy fish that will hit bait, but is hard to hook up.  I trolled for a long time, but no pelagic action so I trolled in over the outer edge of the reef and caught one small Omilu(Bleufin Trevally), the treble hooks got him pretty bad in the gut as I brought him in so I kept him for lunch.  There were a bunch of green sea turtles in Kailua bay today, I still find them amazing to watch.

Nice catch Ed! When I was out there for my honeymoon we went paddlingout from Kailua and visited all the islands out there. We saw a few turtles as well and it was amazing. I kept looking out past the reef thinkng of what fish mght be lurking out there.. good thing the wfe was on the yak or i'd of been out there :smt003 ! Just beautiful scenery! We had a blast at the second to farthest island, dodging the surf to land and riding the wrapping surf around the island. I should have brought my longboard :smt012 !

Good stuff man, look forward to that fatty Ulua you'll bring in soon!  :thumright:
