Get her the next boat that you would buy.  Then you will have both and she can come when she feels like it  :smt044

Basically what I was going to say. Get what you will use, because she will not go nearly as much as you or she thinks she will. Then you have back up and a buddy boat that will go wherever you want to.

My wife paddles a Tarpon 160. She handles it just fine. Don't fall into the trap of thinking she needs a short kayak just because she is a woman. Longer is always better. I think longer is better even more so for women because it takes less energy for them to paddle it. They can go further with less effort. I take my wife and her friends out from time to time and the friends are always on my shorter boats and wear out long before my wife. I am not saying 16' is necessary, but those 10' footers are worthless in my opinion for exploring and cruising.

My GF paddles an older Tarpon 140 w/rudder and it suits her perfectly. Its narrow and fast, tracks well especially with the rudder, and accelerates quickly with less powerful paddle strokes. I can use it in a pinch but its cramped and feels a little tippy since I'm a bigger guy, but everyone else (male or female) who have used it love it.

As others have said, you (or a buddy) may be using it as much or more than she does so if the cash is there, get something that suits you, too. Just stay away from the slow, wide kayaks and she will be happy.

Love hearing from the "Napa" guy that's like 15 minutes from my house. I have a lead on a Tarpon 120 for $500 used only 10 times so pretty new. I am headed to Sac today to go get it. Also it was good to talk to you at the ramp Rob. Can't wait to see your wizardry on the new trailer. I put in a call to Don but he must be busy hasn't got back to me.

I paddled a Tetra12 by Ocean Kayak a couple  of weeks ago and I really liked it a lot. Not as much volume as a bigger boat obviously but pretty quick light and stable. I agree with Rob on getting a longer boat if you can. The reissue of the Prowler13 is pretty cool too. If your wife is under 5'8" I would stay in the 13-14 ft range. Cheers and have fun testing boats out!

As a woman (super that is), at 5'7", and an avid fisherwoman (again, super) in both the ocean and lakes, I really think you cant go wrong with the Prowler 13.  I agree with the other posts and would not recommend not going any smaller.  Of course there are bigger, but then there's weight, which is usually more a factor for a 'girl'.  The Prowler 13 is a super stable boat and I can handle it myself.

Well I ended up and got the tarpon 120 it was for a really good price of $500. So couldn't pass on that deal. Even though I had to drive to sac to get it. Off work early hehe. Thanks for all the help.
