My two Cents...
I had a PA14 and it was AWESOME. I never had any other kayaking experience and my buddy had an Outback. I launched the first time off of a ramp in the sloughs - after that straight to the ocean! I launched crab pots, fished, no issues and I am a FAT guy.
Being that I had nothing to compare it to it was great. It was good and stable, I never feared of rolling. I screwed up my first beach landing so bad it was funny to watch. There is a lot to figure out if you are a newby.... how to keep the fins up so they don't scrub, paddle, keep straight etc! I duffed it and came in sideways and rode a wave to the beach. The good Lord was taking care of me!
I sold it because I have no time to use it now. In a couple years when the kids are older, I will get another PA without thinking twice.
I got a ripping good deal on mine - under $1500 when I bought it - and have seen them for 2
$2000 for last years model.
My buddy still has his outback but after I bought my PA, he went and got one - for the stability and wanting to stand up also.
If you can swing it, wait and get a PA, they are great.
Again, my 2 cents...

I had once own both PA 14 and 12 and sold them both . If you are going to fish fresh water mainly , I would pull the trigger to get either one . Now That I owned , OB, AI and Revolution 16 .. In my own two cents . If I could only have one kayak to keep . No doubt it will be the revolution 16 . It can handle rivers, lakes, and the pelagic waters . Period !

With a 350lb. weight limit it can't handle my fast ass though!  :smt044

Very helpful thread. I'm getting into kayak fishing and have been reading a lot about the PA 14 - I'll mostly be in local lakes but would like the option to take it to the ocean as well which sounds like it should be fine for all but beach launches...
