Renting a skiff for Friday, any tips on finding the reefs and rockfish and lings?

Should I take a fishfinder?
Extra Gear?
Tips & tricks?
Give a man a fish, he eats for a day. Teach a man to fish, he'll sit all day with a rod in his hand and no fish.

Fishfinder/GPS will help you if you can find a way to attach the transducer to the skiff.  There's lots of sand out there, so it can be difficult to find the right spot on the reefs.  But the guys there will tell you where to go.

Transducer for the FF may be difficult to mount but even a simple GPS (with some extra batteries) would be really helpful. The rental company will usually give you a list of do's and dont's along with a map with reef locations and coordinates. Likewise, there at some good coordinates online for the nearby reefs that you can pre-load into your handheld unit. This link has some of the popular reefs ...

If you have a way to mount the transducer to the boat by all means take it. Good luck.

Just head out to the buoys they have out there, and you will find some fish.  Sponge Bob, Mile Buoy, SC3 Buoy.

Google earth works excellent for hitting the correct spots.  Works even better with a fish finder.  You can get transducers with suction attachments.

Put the transducer on the end of a 2x4 and C clamp it ti the side or back of the skiff, easy peasy.

I use a suction cup mount.its more for a fiberglass boat but at low speeds it'll stick to aluminum or painted wood
My biggest worry is that my wife(when I'm dead)will sell my fishing gear for what I said I paid for it

I was recently on a Cap skiff and brought my FF and spare transducer.  Mounted the ducer to a pole and held it over the side when i needed to use it.

But it won't find fish only structure.

Right, but the OP does not have a FF.  So them getting onto the structure is good.  Ideally you have both.
