I'm going to have to preface this by saying I have never caught a Kokanee before, but I'm hoping to make it happen!

I plan on getting to Oak Shores Day use at 515am. I'll be parking along the road and wheeling down to the water. This seems to be a suggested way to do it, unless I misunderstood that?

Then I'll be downrigger trolling and searching for kokes. Hopefully I can find them and hopefully I can get them to bite! Reports seem to suggest that they are 65-85 feet deep and possibly around the big island.

Oh, ch 69 and I'm in an olive revo 13 with a grey ram truck.

If anyone wants to come along I would love company or a mentor lol. I'll also be bringing some bass gear just in case I can't figure the kokes out!

Go get em bro...there some good ones in there. ..don't start trolling until u get past the big Island..the edges and adjacent flats of the river channel on the east side of the lake will hold the fish. The whole east end of the big  isand as well...trust your FF if you have. Goodluck. Loozing forward to your report

Yes it's for Friday. I'm hoping to avoid some of the weekend boat traffic!

So for the experts out there, I have a good ff (elite 5), downrigger, shoepeg corn, scent, a selection of koke sized dodgers, and a selection of hoochies, spinners and spoons in white, pink, and green.

I'm thinking I've covered my bases gear wise. I'm getting excited just planning the trip!

I've been out there a few times this year myself.
I'd say you have everything you need to catch one.
If you pass thru a school and get nothing change lure color and try again
Troll slow. 1.2-1.4mph
A lot of boat have actually been fishing around Goat island so don't ignore that area too.
The water is pretty low now so don't be surprised when you see how far you need to walk to launch.
Also bring you're own shade, like as in a big hat! It's gets crazy hot.
I was actually thinking about heading there tomorrow(thursday)
If I go i'll let you know how I do.
Good luck  :smt006

Apex lures trolled 1.2 to 1.7 gps and 18-22 inches behind  midsized Rocky Mountain tackle dodgers in Bahama mama have been the best for us over the past few years.

Looks good what you have but I suggest you to get a shuttle hawk, so you can stack them to fish two different depth.
Like Marco said I caught a few by Goat Is too, so if you can find them by Ranch house, check around there too.
I usually get off the water before it gets hot.  When it gets hot, it becomes water park there...

Good luck!

Quick report. I got to oak shores around 515 and had no problems parking along the road. It was quite a drag to the water though! I fished from 545 till noon. Trolled around the big island but didn't mark any fish. Oh well. It was a nice day on the water and I learned how to use my downrigger. I think a shuttle hawk is in my future!

On my way back in I made a few casts with a drop shot rig and caught one smallmouth bass so at least I wasn't totally skunked!

At least you got the smallmouth and got to get some practice with the downrigger. Don't feel too bad though. From what I've heard, the kokes all but disappeared this last week and nobody is catching them. Especially weird since this should be their hot season. As Rockroach said, its just been a really odd year.

The koke bite has shut off in the main body of the lake. Last weekend, I marked two schools of kokes just southeast of the big island and threw everything I had at them but just couldn't coax a bite out of them. I've heard the narrows and near the dam are producing @ 75-80'. If you ever wanna hookup, I'm down.

As for Oak Shores, it is a bit of a walk to the water. I usually go to the right once inside the entrance and park @ the second parking area,  there's a concrete service road down to the water that makes 75% of the walk down a breeze.

The area between Oak Shores and the Big Island & Goat Island is small mouth heavy. I pulled in 15" & 17" SMB off of a blue spinner hoochie (I'll run my gear shallow on the way back in, for the occasional SMB or rainbow).
