Pore, sounds like a fun trip. My son and I just got back from a 3/4 day trip on the Mission Belle last week. That boat is off the hook. They had an epic YT bite and everyone had limited before 1:30.

I am totally addicted and that kind of fishing is epic and now of course, looking to beef up my rod/reel collection. Who knew a Tiger Medium Heavy was chump change to those beasts...LOL    Hit me up if you ever want to do another trip. I want to do a 1.5 on the El Capitain and then venture to some 3+ days. Man, did I learn alot. Way different than our party boats...LOL

Quinn,

Yeah the 3/4 boats are slamming the YT. Looks like the YFT are starting to show as well. Totally different than fishing nor cal charters for sure. I will let you know next time I head down. 1.5 or two day minimum for sure.

Time for new glasses.  Pass this thread several times thinking it was "San Diego Chargers."  Way too early for football.

They should change their name, "Charters" is way better than "Chargers".

Btw, are any of these fish ever in kayak range? My brother-in-law lives in San Diego, so I'd have a place to stay for free. He surfs some and has even fished from a kayak a couple of times, so he's got a better understanding of the "the madness" than your average person (in this sense, my wife is very average...).
I don't like stuff that sucks.

I know some hardcore guys are going after BFT around 5 miles out. Yellowtail are everywhere so I think you have a solid chance at them. The Islander runs Yack charters which sounds like the coolest thing ever. If not bringing some light bass gear and targeting calico bass sounds like it could be a great time as well.

Hit me up man. Would love to jump on another boat soon!  BTW, now I just need to get some good gear ;-)  Thinking Calstar with a Shimano Torium for starters :)

Yellowfin can be caught flylining the kelp edges. I talked with a guy coming in on a yak at La Jolla Shores that had two nice yellows. He launched around 8 and was back at 2. It is a decent haul and he had a totally tricked out Hobie. The paddle is a a good mile or so, and once out, he was peddling looking for fish....Also, the the surf launch there can be challenging at La Jolla Shores. Make sure you look up the MLPA boundaries and do mind the entrance/exit. I would not recommend that spot for beginners. Just my 2 cents. I had my kayak there for a week and used it plenty in Mission Bay. Now that was some fun fishing there!

Thanks. I was down there last year but couldn't bring my kayak. Maybe this year...
