Its been a while since I have posted an Alaska update.  Sorry about getting lazy.  But I thought about posting because I fished with someone I had only met via another kayaking forum and I had a great time!  So I wanted to continue and extend an invitation to anyone here top come up and fish. as long as you are in good standing on this site I am more than happy to get ya on the water.   I loaned out my kayaks and the guys did pretty well.

The bad news is I haven't caught my June King yet so the streak may die at 9 consecutive months of catching a king from my kayak.

The good news is that I have still been fishing.  This past few weeks I have dealt with guests from Southern California but even better I have been getting some Yak time with my 10 year old son.  He is a natural at this!

So two weeks ago, since its been over a year since he has been on a kayak, we try out a lake for a bunch rainbows with the biggest going slightly over 20 inches.  What a blast!

But then this Friday, my son manages to winch up a 35 plus pound halibut from a kayak!! Now I fear he is going to think the rainbows are not all that exciting after this catch.  Still its awesome to see the smile you can put on a kids face by just taking the time to take them with you.  Double cool when he starts thinking the rainbows are too easy and then wants to switch over to the kiddie pole for more challenges knowing I had done the same thing a few weeks back..doh, I hadn't posted that here yet either..

So the highlight of the past few months was this fish here:

The 95 second video clip.

Here's the video of the rainbows we hammered.

Finally, in May the King fishing was so good I tried it with a Barbie rod.  It worked great until I had a harpoon failure on an 80 pound plus halibut!!!! ARGH! Short story, the harpoon head I bought had a smaller inside diameter and when I hit the halibut, it stuck to the shaft and I ended up pulling it part way through. Prior to that screw up, I was 4 for 4 on king salmon and 3 for 3 on smaller halibut using the Barbie rod.   If you are so inclined the story can be found here.  A little weird as the title suggests, but it is what it is.  lol.  :  http://guidesak.blogspot.com/2015/05/a-tragic-alaskan-love-story-kardinal.html

For a video of the better times and catching the video is here Part one of a three part series :

Going Fishing?
Winds from the south, hook in
    the mouth.
Wind from the east, bite the least.
Wind from the north, further off.
Wind from the west, bite the
    best.

Thanks for the update. And that's the best Barbie pole story I've ever heard.
