Hey guys, I'll be going down to morro bay for a carshow in about a month and was wantig to bring my yak down along with the cars.... :smt003Anyone fish down there and have any suggestions? Where to go, what to bring, where to launch ect? Thanks a lot! :smt006
Give a man a fish and he'll eat a day. Teach a man to fish and he'll sit on the water all day with a stick in his hand and no fish.

Montana de oro, Cambria, are some of the good close spots on the coast

I'm located in Los Osos. The closest to Morro Bay would be trolling for Salmon outside the harbor in front of "The Rock", inside the harbor for perch and maybe a halibut if they are around, or Spooners Cove is the main launch in Montana de Oro. Further away would be Cayucos (a couple different launches in that area), Leffingwell Landing in Cambria, or further south you can hit Avila (Port San Luis) or Shell Beach. Best fishing would be Spooners Cove MDO or Leffingwell in Cambria. Hope that helps. Give me a shout when you're here, if I'm available I'll hit the water with ya!

came upon this interview from early this year about a shark attack on surfer at MDO.  Hopefully the risk abates during the more popular summer months?

If you want a bit more secluded head north and fish the Lime Kiln area of Big Sur.
I only fish on days that end with Y

Today's catch North of Cayucos off of Windmills beach launch.

When north of Morro Bay, us locals call it No Mo.  :smt003

There is a 2 track dirt road/trail that you need to dolly your yak down to the cliff above the cove = about 350 yds. The cliff is No Big deal about 20 feet to the sand. There is a staircase you can drag your yak down. Be careful at launching and beaching at high tide as the beach can be very slim.

You can also just launch near the Cayucos pier. Less of a schlep, and still good fishing for rockfish and halibut.

Will be staying a week in Cambria over the 4th of July....used to fish a lot out of Morro Bay, but never out of Cambria.  Any insights on what colors and types of jigs to use...will probably fish 3-4 days if anyone wants to hook up.

I'll probably be down to go out. I like green/clear with sparkly stuff in it and white/red always works well. Just a heads up, last Friday my buddy Mark saw a white breach twice after a seal at Leffingwell. They've been tracking one right in that area for a week or so now. They're always there, just a little scarier having it confirmed.

Thank you for the heads up...will send a note when we are in Cambria to see if you want to head out.  Would have no problem launching out of Morro bay or Montana de Oro either...used to have a lot of fun in Morro bay catching skates and rays...I went to school at SLO back in the early 90s.
