I haven't been there, but if it's anything like Elk in Mendocino County the fishing and ab diving are probably pretty good.  Unfortunately, March isn't a great time to go fishing in the ocean around here in that just about nothing is open.  Rockfish and lingcod are closed until July, Salmon are closed until mid-April,  and Abalone are closed until April.  The only thing we really fish for in the ocean in NorCal in the winter are surfperch from the beach. The other problem is the weather in March, even if there was something to fish for you'd be hard pressed to find a calm enough day.

I camped there a couple of years ago with my family and met up with Sean, Jelly, and Travis.  It was a little slow the day I fished, but managed a couple of nice fish.  I saw a free diver with a couple big lings.  The launch is protected and I believe you can fish the cove even if the outside is too rough.

The camp sites where the RVs park are close together.  The bathrooms are clean and have warm showers.  There is a nice fish cleaning area.  This area is beautiful.  If the weather is nice, I take a trip up North to Jug Handle Beach (I think that's the name).  I think it is one of the nicest beaches in NorCal.

I'm pretty sure RF and Lingcod will be closed in March.  Salmon won't be open either.  I'm not sure about abs as I don't dive.  There are supposed to be halibut in the sandy area of the cove but probably too early for them.

Chris:

We fish there a lot, and it pretty good.  There are other spots nearby that are better, but its a beautiful place.   Unfortunately most all saltwater will be closed at that time.  If you bring a speargun, that will be open for rockies and perch.

If youre around here in March, you need to budget a day and I will take you striper fishing, it will be prime seaon.

I went Ab diving there for my first time on 1Aug.  A friend and I camped in the tent sites there the night before.  The sites are walk up, but they were cool.  So my first time ab diving, I swam out straight into the cove and went to the left where there were a bunch of rocks.  Its probably because it was the first day of the season but the abs were easy to find and my friend and I got our limits within 10-15 minutes.  No trophys to speak of, but for a first time it was great.  And they had pay showers in the RV area for afterwards.  I didnt like the look of the RV area at all, its just a dirt parking lot.  but the beach was nice, and thats really what matters.   Oh, and we rented gear from Sub-surface progressions dive shop which isnt too far away, they were cool too.  anyhow, I'd go back because of how nice i thought the cove was there, not so much for the camping.  But I'm here for the fishin' dude... camping comes second. :fish

Thanks everyone for the replies... Looks like I might just fly up and bring some surf gear to avoid a long drive... Sean, thanks for the invite, I will definately take you up on some Striper fishing!!!  :smt004

There are some excellent surf breaks nearby...dress warm!  If you want to come over and fish for stripers I can loan you a boat no problemo.
