Be sure to look at the national marine sanctuary regs, they are banned in some areas and need to be of a certain size for others.

I dont do much freshwater fishing up here, but do in the ocean off of my ski. There are some regulations, especially for me ( its a built race ski, LOUD) but I still find time to fish/crab off of mine. Maintenance is a pain for saltwater riding, but its worth it, getting out to the grounds and back FAST is always a plus, having to wait at the launch ramp to launch/load is a pain by yourself too, normally i'll have friends who will fish/crab from the piers or jetty's so that helps a bunch. You'll get used to the stability, having a big hump in the middle has its pros and cons but i've yet to hook anything that really made me question my safety. Jetskis do sit higher out of the water, so unlike a yak, center of gravity changes.

Have you owned pwc's before? I've yet to meet another jetski angler, thats why I hang out with most of the yakers :D It's definitely awesome though, I find myself on the pwc more than on the yak, for me its difficult to watch the jetski sit in the garage for so long, so it gets ridden to fish/crab and during summer weather. What year are you looking at? brand new? forced induction?

many years ago we  had a jet ski.
never been on the ocean on one. dont know what i need other than down rite dependable. i am a fisherman first, the kayak is just a tool to fish the salt
if it wernt for fishing i would not be on a kayak. love the idea of opening more fishing grounds that i would never get to in a kayak.

I say go for it!

Ocean is a little different, if you've been on the ocean in a yak then the dangers are the same, reading the waves, wind and such. You can get away with a little more with the added power but you'll still be a small spec compared to the other big boats out there. I love fishing off the ski, up until now I've only used very minimal equipment , this year i'm planning to add a removable fishing rack and live well setup.

That brings up the next question, will this be a dedicated fishing vessel? There are quite few that have setups as a full fishing rig ( permanent fixtures) , where as my ski was initially designed as a go-fast, so I like to keep it that way and have temporary fishing setups, loading on gear when I need to.

Do you know what brand you're looking into? power level and such? Either way, be sure to take into consideration the cost and time of precautionary measures and clean up/ maintenance time, salt water left in a hot, sealed jet ski hull is extremely damaging. It's all very fun though, and to me, worth the time and effort :)

Nice setup Kiel!

have you had any issues with the pvc rack setup in the ocean? I was debating on making my own or going with the kool pwc setup.
