A couple years ago all I ever used is spinning (penn battle) left handed. Got introduced to a lews and Cardiff (was told I was right handed) and had alot of trouble at first. Mainly used mooching for cod off yak. Now I can cast better/further with baircaster.  I really like my lews but geared way too low. Been fishing surf for like 15 years and finally landed my first striper. I'm looking for a better baitaster possibly with power handle option. Also want to be able to switch it too my rockcod rod when needed. Was looking at curado or Avet. What you guys think. Price range is no more than $300.

Check out the Daiwa Lexa series. they range from the 100, to the 300, (looks like the 200 was discontinued) to the 400. Several different gear speed selections, very powerful drags, a selection of speed and power handles, and both left and right hand retrieve.

Amazon, most of the national retail chains will carry them.

another option, would be the Okumas. I bought an Alumina years ago at deep discount / closeout at a store going out of business. It was supposed to replace a Browning A351 , but ended up being an all around fresh and salt water reel for smaller species. While it's no longer made, their newer low profiles are even better and more durable at very reasonable prices.

If you are serious you don't want a levelwind they don't handle shock knots very well. You want something pretty easy to service since it will get sandy.

Penn 525
Abu Bassstastic
Avet MC Longcast
Akios reels get some pretty good press they come with 2 sets of bearings ss and ceramic

I have been using round bait casting reels for the surf. I use Shimano Calcutta TE 201 or a 401 size they are wonderful but cost a little bit.
