Sorry, no pics my camera is on the fritz.

I broke down my abu 4600CB all the way.  Completely, to each individual part that a user can break it down to and cleaned all and replaced the bearings and drags.

Sweet.  Almost new, certainly not new, but very good for its age and condition.

I can't wait to get it back into service.

After the initial fear of the disassembly, I must say it went quite smoothly.  Now I need a new fishing rod to put it on...  :smt003   I'm thinking of making it my senko reel and pairing it with a medium action 6.5 or 7 ft. claurus baitcaster.  I need to bring it to the fishing shop for balance tests etc....

Thanks again to Alan Tani for the motivation to do stuff like this.

Hot Sauce lubricant is pretty sweet.

More round reel love....

I broke down my 6500c3 and cleaned and lubed it.  I found that one of the bearings was completely rusted solid.  The reel was working on its bushings (nice backup).  I pirated a bearing from a 5500c3 that I found in my garage that I forgot that I had.  6500 is super smooth and sweet now (with carbontex).

That 5500 didn't work so well (I bought it from a friend), and at the time I had never really opened a reel so I didn't bother with it.  I opened it today.

Holy bejeebus, whoever worked on it last felt that the way to go was to drown it in grease!!!  I took out so much grease it was rediculous.  It was not locking after a cast, and the whole reason was that the spring on the freespool arm could not fight through all the grease.  Cleaned that up and now I have a perfect 5500c3 (well it needs a bearing).

Round reel love baby.  Now I need some new fishing rods!!!
