My rod tip on one of my lamiglas rods got bent. The blank is ok, it's just the guide that needs to be replaced. I looked up on the interwebs about replacing it myself. Looks straightforward.

The problem is when I look at the tip of my rod.. It looks like there is some sort of clear coat that I'm not sure if simply heating it will release it.

Anyone have any experience with this?

Cheers. Thanks,
Dave

Does the clear coat actually extend over the sleeve of the tip guide? If there is any clear coat or wound thread over that sleeve, you're going to want to carefully remove that first using a utility knife. Make sure you don't nick the blank.

If there's nothing on top of that metal sleeve, just warm it slowly with a lighter until you can slide it right off.

There should be some resin that you might have to very carefully cut around to release it.if you heat it and it won't come off you'll have to gently cut through the resin to get it off.be careful and goodluck

You guys tell me what you think. It's kind of a bad picture. Apparently my phone doesn't like to take close ups.

It looks like there's some sort of coated wrap. Or maybe I'm just making that up. Either way I've never done this before. Input greatly appreciated.

Maybe not the best way but it works for me and I have not have one fail on me yet ...bic lighter...heat guide ...melts resin/ glue ...gloves ,pull off damaged guide ...sand paper tip..glue stick ...heat/melt glue ...replace with new tip..wait 2 mins..flake off glue booger ....fish. Not scientific...but then I'm not a rocket scientist ..sure there's a better way  :smt001
Thats how the bass shop I use to go to did it.

Heat it with a lighter, try to twist back and forth to see if itll come loose.otherwise you'll have to edge around the tip with a razor

That should slide right off with a little heat. Doesn't look like any of the thread wrapping or clear coat stretches over the guide's sleeve.

Thanks for all your input guys. IT WORKED!

I did have to score it a little to get the guide to release, but after about5 minutes of very careful, very light scoring with an exact I knife it finally gave way.

All in all... Start to finish it took about 10 minutes.
