I just joined the board and dont even have a yak yet. But I'm trying to figure it all out. Thanks in advance for any wisdom.

Welcome!  If you have the time, I'd recommend taking a kayak fishing class or hook up with one of the many guides on NCKA.  It'll give you a jump start on kayaks, gear, and techniques.  Or, keep an eye out for HookUps and go meet some of the folks and check out their gear.  Or, do both and really start enjoying time on the water!

Well hello! We're sort of in the same boat. I  joined and just posted my first intro yesterday  and only just picked up my fishing kayak on 5/31/2015. I already have a touring kayak but it sucks for fishing. I do have an inflatable Maxxon kayak that works for lakes but it's slow and I won't even attempt to go in a river or the ocean with that one.  Things will be different now that I picked up one of Jim's Raptor Kayaks.
