I maintain my position....not a lot of need for em, I'd agree with Scott's 99% estimation.

For 99% of NorCal fishing, level drags work just fine.   :smt002

In all seriousness, it's the "right tool for the job" argument.   If fishing vertical, I like to use a lever drag.  If fan casting a swimbait, it's a star drag.

Eh NCKA Bruddahs,

I agree with Dr. Habanero. When I first started kayak fishing almost 2 years ago, my older brother gave me his his Shimano TLD 15 reel with a lever drag. You can't beat it for the price, durability and versatility. You can use if for kayak fishing and also for deepwater rockfishing like 200ft depths. It has a carbon fiber body that does not rust and makes the reel lighter. it can also take a lot of abuse.

I have a couple of TLD15's.  If you like those, find yourself a used TLD10, used because they don't see new one anymore.  Less bulky.  There is a 5 too, which is even smaller, but I don't have one of those (yet!).
