Greetings,

I'm a late comer to the party.  I joined a few years back but this is my first post.  I grew up in the San Jose, fished the coast a lot as a kid but do mostly inland waters now.  I live in Oroville.  I fish locally at Lake Oroville and the Feather river during the salmon season, then at the south Delta for both bass and striper when I'm there.  When I was younger I spent a lot time water skiing the Delta.  I have friends in Discovery Bay and still visit there often.

Alas, I don't currently own a functional kayak!  I fished from a kayak often when I was a teen, an old 14' skin on frame sit-in kayak that I still have and is rotting on saw horses in the back yard.  The majority of that fishing was done on the Stanislaus and Toulumne rivers.

For several years now I have tried to stay informed with the increasing popularity of kayak fishing and the many different kayaks available.  I have demo'ed several yaks in the last couple of years.  The demo experiences have reinforced what many here and elsewhere have advised: demo, demo, demo.  My preformed conclusions about what boats and features I thought I would prefer were dramatically different once on the water.

These last few years health and other challenges have kept me from pulling the trigger on any specific yak.   I don't often take the time to fish but stay somewhat connected both online and with a small rod & reel repair business I do here in Oroville through our local bass tackle shop.  I get to talk with our local fishing fanatics and dream about someday soon spending time on the water in my own kayak.

Welcome aboard old timer! You probably get the award for longest time between sign-up and first post...lol.

Hoping you get your health issues resolved and get on the water ASAP.

Cheers.

I started kayak fishing to get away from most of you...

Welcome! You'll probably find some takers for your reel repair business. Good luck out there! Warren

Thanks for the welcome posts.  I quite enjoy reading about everyone's experiences here.

I hope I didn't sound like I was trolling for business, I'm not.  I stay busy enough already.  I would hope that most of you have someone local that you can trust with your gear.  While I see far more fresh than salt water equipment here, if needed, I'd be happy to advise re: equipment selection or repairs.

Thanks again for the welcome and to everyone who shares their stories and opinions here.  We are all enriched by your contributions.

Steve
