At about 1:25 p.m., a caller reported seeing two people in kayaks in the ocean off of Galleon’s Reach and feared they might be drifting and in need of help.

Wonder if they needed help at all?

I thought the same.. The water looked rough, but it looked like there was a break between sets.  The other kayaker made it back to shore.. I would like to hear from the kayakers.

Their story:

"I was out there on my kayak fishing when all of a sudden some guy hanging from a helicopter comes & snatches me out of my kayak & a guy on a pabbleboard paddles away with my yak & fish"

....ok, so that's not the REAL story but....

Illness? Fatigue? Sea sick? So many things can go wrong... Like cramping on a Hobie :smt044 Glad they are ok... Glad the coasties are able to help and not charge them $$$$ for doing so :smt007 :smt007 :smt007
my new name should be Ostridge. Got my head in the sand. Going fishing and letting go of the other stuff I can't control anyway!

Look pretty close to shore and the rescue didn't take long at all.  The guy on a SUP rescued his kayak, so i'm guessing an illness or injury.

I imagine they would have declined the rescue if it weren't needed. I'd definitely like to hear the other side of the story.

Either way, I'm glad everyone went home safe.

It could be one of the kayakers fell overboard & couldn't self rescue. Otherwise why would the one guy have been air lifted to the beach & then declined medical treatment?

It may have been a MOB event.  Either way, this is a good reminder, be prepared.  TAKE A RESCUE CLASS.  If not for yourself, your fellow kayakers.

I know that area well...my guess is that he/she may have had some medical issues.  The current does run pretty swift in that area, but does not look that rough IMO.  Plenty of other places close to that area to safely paddle in.  Hope everything was OK...
