I am not knew to fishing nor kayaking...but I am new to the salt water and area in which I currently live.

I am getting ready to purchase a kayak but want to make sure there are some decent areas to go before plunking down the money etc.

I am a fresh water guy...and well there arent alot of fresh water areas to fish it seems unless you get in the truck for a drive...the east bay is saturated in Mercury...I mean where the hell do I go to catch a good dinner?

Where are good places to camp around here?

Thanks,

Closest to you would be Half moon bay.   Search and you will see people..

I fished rocks off land, but after kayaking I catch more and fish are larger. In a couple years the fish I catch will pay itself for the kayak.. :smt044

BPOWA,

DO you have any areas of launch in HMB?

Thanks!

OLD Pier at Princeton jetty.   There are a lot of information. I advise you to search "HMB". Also read the sticky on safety and needed gear. I just started kayaking about 6 months ago.  I finally got all the gear I need to feel confident on the water.   I already paddled in hairy conditions, and think I know my limits.   This was yesterday at Monterrey bay. Notice a couple whitecaps.  Not the greatest conditions. it was hard to fish, but I was comfortable in the conditions. So get all your safety gear, and start guys here on hookup section.

Thanks Bud!  The pic looks awesome!

I had a 10 foot I use to paddle in the bay when I first moved here,,,but no fishing off of it.  I am in the market for a trident 13.5 or 15...just have to pull the trigger and get it!

Yeah.. Mines is 12 foot..   But I wouldn't not mind a 13 foot trident.
I bought it used and had to pick it up in Sacramento.  Like most of my toys I sacrifice goodness with price of what I can afford.

I think  a 12 foot yak is already pushing it in the ocean. A 10 foot is too small for ocean fishing.

Is it just me, or do pictures (and video) always seem to make it look a lot calmer than it feels in person? And that looks rough...

It's choppy from the pic for sure...I'm sure he was water proof though...I have foodies and a wet suit...I would prefer to not dress up when I fish...I need some camping in a warm area soon.  The ocean isn't going to get warm so ya have to....

I wear nrs 3mm farmer john and booties like most here recommend.  Slip on splash pants and wind breaker over a sweater.  Keeps me dry and warm for the most part.
