Left my house before 230am on Saturday morning to go pick up fuzz and head up to the Spearing Against Leukemia event at Caspar.

Only took an hour or so to get him and his gear loaded and we were up in Mendo before 8am.

Paddled offshore into BIG, sloppy, powerful seas and worked our way through the waves for several miles to the chosen spot.

When we jumped in it was pretty clear that it was too rough to dive this spot...even off the edges of the pinnacle at 50+ feet the surge was strong and made hunting almost impossible.  :smt009

Jumped back on the yaks and paddled off to next spot...dropped anchor and jumped into better conditions and saw a few fishies and took one small abalone before deciding to move again.

Anchor was stuck so jumped back in to dive down to free it and there was a nice cab sitting right there that didn't move until I was right on it...course my gun was back in the yak. DOH!  :smt013 :smt005

Moved all the way back into sheltered, shallow waters and met up with Charlie, Kris, Aaron and Jack. Plenty of small but legal abalone here so took my last two and we paddled in.

Back at camp the raffle and event were AMAZING and the good vibes and fun were off the hook!!

Next morning, Kris cooked us up some bacon and eggs and then we hit the road to get home for my daddy duties and I was back home by 2pm.  :smt001

Honored to have been part of this event, was GREAT so get to hang out with so many cool people, and even though diving was pretty much a bust it was fun to be on the water paddling and exploring!

Sincerely,

Jim
