my son and i had a contest   striper fishing with our micro trout rods
 and 4# line
caught one at 11# one at 8# and some shakers.
those big ones damn near spooled us and now our lines are twisted bad, almost all the   way through.  does line coming out of the spinning reel through the drag twist ?
thanks

Light spinning tackle is fun for stripers, but can be tough on drags. My buddy burned up his drag. The line twist is from trying to reel in the fish and the spool just turning. Try to avoid constant reeling in. Try and use your hand to prevent the spool from spinning and stick to a pump n reel technique.

I always wondered how I managed to do that a lot. I didn't realize reeling in while the line is peeling was such an issue. Learned something new today, thank you.
Thresher in avatar and Soupfin Shark in signature both caught and pic taken by me.

i think you nailed it.
i by no means try to reel while the drag is screaming but with such light tackle i found my self on a few occasions reeling while its pulling.

If your getting a lot of line twist, the best way to get it out is to pull your line behind your boat with out anything attached to it and reel it back in. I fish for stripers the same way lots of fun.
