People tend to take the fact it is a lake as being less "deadly" because they will just 'swim over to the shore'.  :smt009

I've had some of my absolute worst paddling experiences on Lake Mendo.

Nothing like trying to paddle back to the ramp 30 minutes before dark against 15-20mph winds and 2'-3' wind chop on an 11' OK Caper.  :smt011

Not to sound insensitive but i call that natural selection.  When I see something like that i will usually make it a point to say something like "wow no life jackets? " and depending on their response I make a quick judgement as to if they are jack asses or just don't know any better. If they just don't know any better then I will try to point out a few things to consider. ..pfd's, self rescue and how things can change very quickly on the water.  Sometimes it's well received and sometimes it's not but at least my conscience is clear.
