Lots of other states have some awesome kayak tournaments.  Ride the Bull is a good example but so are many of the events that Bayou Coast Kayak Anglers put on.  The first KATS event in Texas this year pulled some 330 or so kayak bass anglers.  The Kayaks and Greenbacks event on Lake Wiley paid out over $10,000 last year and the KBF Open is supposedly got somewhere near $20,000 in cash prizes for their event on Kentucky Lake.  I've fished the Jacksonville Kayak Classic several times and while they don't give out cash prizes they have in the neighborhood of $80,000 in prizes that are given out with over a dozen kayaks being included in the prize list.

Seems like over the years the trends for most things seem to start in California and then move Eastward but I'd definitely say the big kayak tournaments are just the opposite.  It seems like the sport is growing much faster on the opposite shore of the country for some reason.
