How much wieght should I put on the trap doors?

How much weight for the trap as a whole?

I have 30" Danielson square traps with 100ft of rope ( it is the inexpensive 1/2" nylon due to budget contraints ) with a red and white bouy with a red flag on top.

Brian... it looks like all you need are a couple rubber core sinkers like the ones pictured here....

Try the traps without weight first.  You likely may not need to add any.  Remember.... that keeping you trap as light as possible (just enought to keep it in on the bottom) is important, especially when you're on a kayak.  If you've hauled up a trap full of crabs, you'll know what I mean.

Keep the line as thin as possible.  It takes up less space and provides less drag on the trap.

45 to 60 feet... but it really depends on where you go.  Generally, deeper yields bigger and better quality.  Many commercial guys drop'em over 150 feet down.

I dont have any weight on my traps at all. Should I be putting some on the doors? How do I know if I should or not?
