I am dropping my wife off at the Oakland airport at noon. I was going to hop over to the rockwall for a few hours, company welcome.

Anyone know where to get some good live bait in the area?

Hey Bill.  I think the closest source for live bait (anchovies) is the Berkeley Marina.  But if you have a throw net, then you can make bait right at the Rockwall.  I was there yesterday and a bankie caught a nice 18 lb halibut off the rocks using live jacksmelt and a bobber.

Bill, if I get home early enough Friday morning, I can meet you near the Oakland Airport to catch live bait for you and teach you how to throw a net.  And if I'm not too tired, I may even join you at the Rockwall.

For me, throwing a cast net and catching live bait is almost as fun as fishing itself.  I really recommend that everyone who likes fishing with live bait learn how to use a cast net.  It really adds to the whole "self-sufficient" aspect of kayak fishing.

I think it would be neat to do a short mpeg tutorial for the homepage.  I'd volunteer and I know Duane would too.

Bill,

High tide is around 11am. I'm fishing there from 9am to 2pm. Chanel 69. I'll try to make enough bait for the both of us.

Berkeley marina is the worst place to buy bait......they charge $9/pound.

Bait for $3/pound is available from two small shops on San Pablo Avenue....both on the East side of the street:

Berkeley Bait...about five blocks south from University avenue...run by a very ancient black man who I think is named Charles...he parks his trailered motorboat in front of the shop.

The other shop is just called BAIT SHOP, run by a pretty ancient japanese man....located just north of the OK TIRE dealership which is, I believe, at Carleton.

9th & Carleton, of course, is "Juan's".....the only Mexican place worth going to in the entire East Bay if not the whole world.

I haven't been posting---or fishing with you guys---because Saturday, April 2 when Sherry and I were in Pennsylvania she had a heart attack.   Nothing's gone very well since.
