There are only a few native drainages for goldens, a lot of people mistake young rainbows for goldens. They look very similar, get into the "golden trout wilderness" volcano creek, little kern river and find the true yellow bellies.

There are fishable Paiute Cutthroats in Madera county if anyone is up for a little walk.
I only fish on days that end with Y

I hiked to a few high altitude lakes last year (highest was 9400'), am going to try for peaks higher than 10k this year.

man, that would be an adventure.  can't imagine portaging a boat in 5 miles in that kind of terrain, no matter how good wheeleez is.   :smt044  like something out of ranger selection lol

Its worth it to have a lake full of 15-18" brookies and nobody around!!! That's hard to find these days.

My setup at Kirman

What happens when you race...double roll over.  :smt044

As for Leavitt- I went once, it was awesome! I also hiked up to Koenig and started up to Latopie but started to feel a bit of elevation sickness and I was by myself so turned around and headed back down to pickle meadows. Heres a few pics from that trip.

Oh and the Golden/Golden Hybrids were caught at Moon, Elba, Star and Puppet Lake.

While im at it here is my trip to desolation in 2013.

If the weather stays the same, I'll be heading to Kirman in March.  I'll be on mountain bike with my float tube.
So long and thanks for all the fish!!!

Is it even open in March?

Damn your right, I keep forgetting that lake has a season.  That would have sucked to drive all the way there and then read the sign.  April 25th is opening day.
