Hobie-Dave, Pam and I spent the past two days at Orchard  Springs Campground at Rollins Lake.   Unfortunately the fishing wasn't  good.  Dave got one squaw fish and I caught the skunk.  The campground was empty and very quiet.  We got the only 2 campsites that were close to the launch.  We managed to get electricity from a nearby pump station but had to fill our tanks for water.  There are sites with full hook-ups, including sewer, water and electricity but they're  a long ways from the water.  The lake is vey scenic but there are lots of hazards on the water, mostly floating logs and tree branches.  According to the onsight manager, every site is booked solid for the entire summer season.  I'm pretty sure this is more of a water skiing and PWC lake than a kayak fishing lake.  There could be opportunities in the Spring but the campground is not very practical for yakkers due to the distance to the launch area.  There are other campgrounds around the lake but Orchard  Springs is clearly the best according to the reviews.  My comments would probably be more upbeat if we had caught fish.  I tried every lure in my box and even tried soaking crack (POWER BAIT), but nothing worked.  Still a great couple of days!

Bummer on the strikeout, Martin.  but glad to see you got out.  How was the biting insect situation?

Martin,

Sorry to hear about the skunk, beautiful lake though. I've been getting reports from other people who fish that lake and it's all the same. the little action I've heard about is in the evening on top for trout. I assume it has something to do with the hatch. The water is still cold and dirty. But as soon as inflow chills out and that water temp climbs up, it's should be good. I think with our current weather pattern, we should have a good bite going on for FreshKATS in April.

As for camping, yeah each location is very different and has it's challenges but Orchard is definitely the nicest campground on the lake. I'm chatting with the NID now and if they cannot work with me than we'll go to Greenhorn which has an easy launch. I'll most likely have to be on top of them.. no seriously. They have a lot of cleaning up to do, but it could work.

Great Try Martin. In all Honesty, its slow everywhere right now. Lakes haven't quite turned over yet and are a lil stained. give it a few more weeks, and Norcal Lakes are gonna bust Loose.

Sorry couldn't find any fish to cooperate, its a real tough lake.  Ive fished it a couple times and caught little dinks on dodger worm combo. Ill bet there will be skiers and  jet skis if the weather is nice in april, be prepared! Ill give it one thing the scenery is nice! As for fish all its got going for it is a rumor of an 18" crappie :) and lots of dinks.

Thanks for the report Martin.  I miss fish and chill with my LS brothers.  I think we're due for a clam digging and chilling next month.

Sounds good Sonny.  Biting insects weren't a problem.  If they're around I'm always the guy getting bit but I came home with no bites.
