Fishing the river has been pretty good the last couple weeks if you don't care what you catch.

Been trying for SMB drifting crayfish pattern flies underneath a float and soft plastics that look like crayfish can't find the SMB but sure have found a lot of pike minnows, some in the 25" range, usually don't bring fish home so it's good to catch something and good to be on the water

After last weekends rain had to shovel the mud to launch

The fly is called Hook-Up Crayfish tied it using instructions found in Fly Tyer magazine, fish hit it hard sometimes going after it two or three times until they are hooked

Was that launch at Ord Bend?  Have not visited there since completion of the dredging.

Yes, and there are a ton of those ugly fish in the river, bad for the salmon being released, how did you do today? I didn't have enough time to make the trip up to Shasta

Same as every day for Shasta, quick limits. I ended up done with work quicker than expected, so we got there around 10, tired of culling around 2 so headed back to work on some fruit trees.

I thought you might have come out there. Around noon somebody launched a Hobie and started fishing in towards where we were. Didn't pay attention to their rig though,  just happened to see a Hobie. As soon as we got close though they whipped around and burned outta there to fish farther out. It seemed kind of weird. That's happened a couple times before,  i dunno if it's coincidence,  but it's happened a few times before, always seems to be a guy in Hobie. Happened at Whiskeytown and Shasta.

Sounds like a lurker, maybe he will join NCKA soon and say hello, I have been fishing the river and LC, easy to get on the water in a couple minutes and fish for a couple hours, should be some good LMB for HOW event, fish are looking healthy, smaller ones are out, should start seeing active bigger fish soon.

That's such a great venue for the event, very stoked you got it through. Is the date for the HOW event solid with the committee? Is that pizza place still in LC? If so,  do you think they might be interested in doing some catering for the event?

Should know next Tuesday night, no indication that it won't be approved, May 1 is the date I requested.

Once given the okay we can get to work on businesses for support, I have told the community we would look to veterans who live here or veterans who are family/friends of people who live here, I expect lots of community support several people have volunteered to assist with food etc. including a couple boats to keep track of kayakers if needed.
