I scored a campsite at Stillwater Cove 3/31 planning on fishing the opener 4/1.

I haven't stayed or launched there, only nearby at TC.

What's the drill for launching an Outback (I've got beach wheels) in the cove? How difficult is it? Is there parking at launch or do I need to keep my vehicle in the park across HWY 1? Trying to figure out if it's worth it to launch there or go down to TC.

Anyone with any experience?

Each year the approach to the water changes there. Some years it is quite rocky which makes pulling a yak between boulders difficult. Other years more sand has build up and the passage is not too bad. You will have to move vehicle from lot and park on hwy above and walk back to cove. TC is usually an easier launch.

OK, understandable. Sounds like a walkabout is required. If I get there before dark I'll post results at some point.

Another option would be Fort Ross.

Thanks, Paul. I think if I get there before dark I'll stroll down from camp to the launch at Stillwater and do a recon. Likely to just get up in the morning and launch at TC.

If you decide to launch from Stillwater Cove, make sure to walk the cart path before unloading the kayak.  I remember requiring a second person to lift over some large boulders about 10 years ago.

I didn't get a chance to recon. When I got there in the afternoon it was raining pretty hard so instead of setting up camp in the rain I decided to go have a drink and something to eat at the TC Lodge. Couple of whiskeys later it stopped raining and was able to setup camp mostly dry and mostly in the light. Fishing TC was pretty good, we went south and had to work real hard for fish. The guys that went north had things easier I think.

Thanks for the TC report and pictures Skitoolong.

Been curiose about the Stillwater Cove launch for some time looks less steep of an access then Timber Cove or Fort Ross, might just have to give it a go.

the walk is easy.  the parking is what kinda blows for me.  you have that tiny two spots...3 if you're all three are friends.  to park and set up.  then you have to back out, and drive back south fingers crossed there are still some parking space..haha..  then the reverse when you pull out of the ocean.  pays to be polite and friendly.    that stretch of road is my work responsiblitiy.  I am the supervisor of all those jobs you past to get there...and some you havent reached.  I have seen some epic arguments at that spot.  hahaha.

sorry about the construction near monte rio.  the project is taking on water.

beautiful spot for sure.  hitting it tomorrow.
