Woods Creek is good for those every once in a while.  I remember a girl back in the 80s found an 11 oz nugget in Woods Creek near Sonora, thought she was picking up a soda can out of the water.

Years ago there was a teenager here in Eureka who was hiking a creek in Trinity Co. He picked up what he thought was a chunk of brass and threw it in the bed of his truck and drove around for a long time before someone recognized it as gold. It sold for $45K if I remember right.
