Hello everyone,

My name is Jorge and I live in Richmond. I found this site while searching online for a fishing kayak as I still don't own one. Based on reviews and cost (<$1000), I have narrowed my choices to either a Tarpon 120 or 140, or a Ocean Kayak Malibu 2xl Angler. I'd like to have the ability to fish with a buddy without the extra expense of an additional kayak so I'm heavily leaning towards the Malibu. Would this be a good choice for fishing inside the SF/San Pablo Bay and along the Sonoma/Mendocino coast?

Best regards,
Jorge

Welcome to NCKA, Jorge.  A tandem trip is way more involved than it may sound.  Balancing you and a partner plus all your gear on a tandem kayak can be a big challenge.  If I were you I'd demo one with someone else on it as well as demoing plenty of solo rides too.

Good luck.   :smt001

Welcome To The Madness!
the best thing about Kayak fishing is you dont need to double up IN a kayak, just go with others who are kayak fishing already! A big heavy kayak is the last thing your gonna want, after a few trips, you'll see why it's best to have your own.

Welcome, Jorge.

Like others said, I'd steer clear of the tandem for now. You could probably score TWO lightly used 1-man sit on top kayaks for that same $1,000.

Thanks for the welcome everyone; I'll definitely heed the advise and look for a single and add a second kayak down the road.

Soleman, thanks for the invite. I'll hit you up for sure once I get a yak and get it rigged up.
