The charm of fishing is that it is the pursuit of what is elusive but attainable, a perpetual series of occasions for hope.  ~John Buchan

I know....crazy wind! Lets hope it dies down at least for a little while so we can get out on the water.

Blowdega strikes again!

Seriously.  I was roused from slumber at about 3:30 in the morning by the side of my tent smacking me in the noggin:

Ended up staying another night all the same, happily the park staff were very accommodating about us relocating to a more sheltered site.  Time to deck out the interior of the previa with a bed, I suspect.

Still, a great time, even though Sara and I didn't bother to get out on the water, but were able to do some surfcasting; only one legal crab, but some fun by-catch of a baby leopard shark and a perch in the snares (both released).

Saturday you couldn't fly a kite, there was just no wind.  Sunday, you couldn't fly a kite, it was blowing at least 25mph steady coming on shore.  I've never seen it that rough.  I was going to launch off the back side, until I watched the channel markers.  The wind and waves were throwing a spray 15' or more off the wood pilings just behind the coast guard station, so I made the decision to not go out.  A couple local boys did and got some sizable dungies but by that time, around noon, then wind had tapered off just a little.  By pot luck time, it was manageable for feeding and by awards time, not too bad!

I think it was 8 crabs turned in for the dungies all total.  Anyone who headed out deserved some trophy though!  Ha!

Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU to Victor and his bride as well as Dan and all the sponsors who came together to make this the best crabfest I've attended (3 years running).  Seems folks were even more friendly than ever, food was out of this world, prizes and awards were over the top.

got to meet new folks and others I only get to see once or twice a year.

My personal best rock crab;
