Well, this was my first season trying for salmon from a kayak.

I pulled up a single salmon to the surface and lost it by pulling the hook.

So I guess I failed, but I feel like I gave it a decent try for somebody who still wants to surf and catch rockfish.

The salmon season seemed generally pretty crappy for kayakers?

I went out 4 times, all in april pretty much, all from moss landing.

after that, I think I surfed and rockfished the season away. Unlike bluekayak, I don't have a lifetime
of rockfishing and striper fishing under my belt, I got to take the easy success until it bores me, which
is not yet!

I hope next year is better for salmon tho!

bluekayak, thanks for all the advice last winter, it was more or less on target, I kind of
know what to do out there now, I just need to get a few more chances next year.

Got one this year at Moss...and got to see Dave get his first one on the yak that same day (good stuff there :smt002) I was hoping Linda Mar would have a repeat of the 2004 season but it never happened. It would have been a great place for first -timers to catch one off the yak. Short paddle, shallow bite (15 pulls at the most) and it was a consistent bite for almost 2 months :smt007 Trolling, trooching and mooching worked for everyone who took advantage of the bite. Good times :smt002 Keeping my fingers crossed for a better season next year...or maybe just try to "cowboy up" and venture out the "Blue Kayak" way  :smt001

J = your time will come.....just like what Stuart used to say to me when I made my first attempt on salmon fishing at Moss....."when you can grab the pebble off my hand, then you know you will be ready to catch one.....young grass hoppa"  :smt003

Several early trips to Shelter Cove with good action for smaller fish was great because it kept me hungry all through the summer as I failed to score again all the way up to the 38#er on 9/11.  Picked up several shakers and 4 legal kings to 6# or so from February through April, released one of the legals, and broke off two or three legals.  Can't wait 'til next year - Shelter Cove opens in February again.   :smt001

What salmon season? I like it when you have to look for the fish but this one was ridiculous

Last months of the season I figure should be good for about a fish and a half per week  My last fish was way back in September when I played hooky from work on my birthday

Anyway it aint over yet Sounds like there's been a lot of seasick sailors out there lately but I'm going out tomorrow just to hear the fat lady sing
