Wow never seen any striper that huge in California.  Even the ones I've seen caught out in the ocean are not even close.

FW in Fresno has two on the wall from Millerton lake that are in the 50 lb range and this looks bigger to me. Im guessing 50-60. But, its a photo so cant tell for sure.

Judging from the picture, I think if the mans hands are 4.0 inches across the way he is holding his hand which I think is generous in this case I am seeing 11 times that space so maybe 44 inch long fish.
In the length to weight chart this fish could be 35 +/- 5 lbs. A respectable striped bass at any rate. The big stripers are still yet to come at San Luis, Oneal's forbay or the Delta. The record is 67 and 1/2 pounds caught in Oneal's forbay. And I know of one that was 70lbs and 6 oz. caught in Oneal's forbay and weight at Coyote bait and tackle back a few years by Frank Ualat.

That's a thick striper so maybe it pushes the upper end of that range, but still a great fish. A striper of that size should be 14-16 years old. That's amazing !

True, Coyote's scale is not certified. One other thing this fish spent overnight on his lawn to weighed the next day and lost an estimated 2 or 3 pounds of water weight.

The way I'm judging this photo is using his hand which is the only thing in scale with the fish so measure your finger length and hand width to approximate the size of the fish. See what you come up with. I am not trying to be critical but I have been off my feet for a month and I am bored and this gave me something to do.  :smt044

OOKAYYY...looked again at the fish on wall at FW. The fish in this photo isn't as big as I thot. It does not have the belly of the fish on the wall and is about the same length as the 48 lber, so, it looks like reelfish is closer with his calcs than I thot. Im guessing about 40 lbs or so.

Still need more from the guy who caught it tho.

Agreed, I think reelfish did a great job estimating the length. I throw 38 lbs into the pot as my guess.

He does appear to have his elbows straightened out, (aka fishsniffer pose).  Nice fish at any rate.
