Hit the Mad below the hatchery, and hooked up around 10:00. The fish weighed in a little over five pounds. Left the river around two to clean the fish and have a late lunch. After eating I loaded up the kayak to catch the sunset and a limit of crab. Got off the water by 6:00, and eating crab by 7:30. I'm getting used to this nor cal fishing after living in San Diego my whole life.

My three largest where males, but the majority of crab in the pulls were females. Could you explain the reasoning behind persuing the males rather than females? It did seem the males had larger legs and more meat, but is the reason have to do with maintaing a healthy crab population or some sort of ethic?

A little of both.  I was told females have sweeter meat, but I don't recall any diffence. One female can lay thousands of eggs so they help keepthe population goin

I'd agree the female's meat is a little sweeter. But barely noticeable (to me). I've only kept one female, just out of curiosity. It had considerably less meat, and was more of a pain in the ass to pick... No more for me.

Sounds like a pretty epic day you had, Lpetro. Nice work!
