Going to dive between Albion and Ft Bragg Sunday Jan 11th if anyone is interested.  Spearfishing or SCUBA.  Open to location and time. Just want to go with someone who has been wanting to go but keeps putting it off.  I would like to try new spots and would love company.

Gonna take ya up on that one of these days D.G. This is the year i plan on diving. doing my research and starting to build on the equipment i need. WAY back in the day. I did take classes in southern california and received my diving certification  with some friends i was in the Marine's with. Saw a guy freak out when we had to perform the buddy breathing part of the class. He spased and was wrestling with his buddy over the regulator when all he had to do was reach behind himself and place his own in his mouth. Luckily it was only in a 12 foot pool.

Marine Corp flashbacks.  Yeah I remember having to punch the Marine who was trying to drown me during the pool training part of boot camp.  He did not know how to swim and freaked out.  So I dam near knocked him unconscious and pulled him to the side of the pool.  I promise I have mellowed in my old age.

Another old jar head scuba diver here... I've been diving all over the world but never in nor-cal, and my craving for ling cod has me just about ready to get down there with and shoot one. I don't quite have all the gear I need yet, but... soon...

Ahh this sounds fun. I would definitely go if I didn't already have some plans. Have fun and land some big ones!

I am cleaning up an old gun and have some spare gear.  Hopefully enough to outfit someone who wants to try spearfishing in the future.  I am upgrading some gear also and will have spare equipment to loan.  We also have a dive shop where you can rent the rest of the gear if needed.  Just let me know when you guys are ready to go.

What do you think of this gun DG ? I picked it up cheap from an older guy in santa cruz. Said he was starting to have problems with his eardrums and was laying off for awhile. Gun is in mint condition. Waiting to lose a few pounds to buy my wetsuit. Don't want one with the arms and legs to long. . What do you think the pro and cons of this speargun. Don't wanna hear sh@t about the Niners Placard..

It will kill fish and that's all you need.  I have heard good and bad reviews on those.  It's just good to have a gun and then if you really get into it you can get another one if you feel the need after you learn what you like and don't like. 

As for suits you can rent suits or buy an open cell freedive suit which can stretch pretty good.  Arms and legs are not usually an issue with size as they leave room for gloves and fin socks.

I have a strong feeling its gonna be my cup of tea. Loved it when I scuba dive in rio del mar.  I think it is more a matter of how long before I am in shape. My oldest is out on his own. my high schooler  is getting pretty self reliant. Well not as far as moola. Gotta keep hitting the bricks, but not as hard. . So with a little more free time, I have been working on my diet and exercise. . Hopefully buy spring I see an improvement. Then its time for the hook ups. I also am feeling much better after my nasal surgery for sleep apnea. TMI ??

Wish I could say that, I wish I would have seen this post earlier but I had to work the 10th and 11th. Wish I could have taken you up on the offer. Very new to diving. Never been spearing but bought a gun to start.
