I have always cleaned drained and dried my kayak for at least five days before launching it in a different lake just because that is the recommended amount of time, but I would like to be able to not follow that rule for certain lakes if it isn't necessary.

Does anyone know specifically if that is necessary when launching it at Donner, Boca, and Stampede? I know asian clams are in Donner Lake, so I wouldn't want to take them to Boca, but are they in Boca as well?

Thanks for any information!

Those are good questions! Maybe ask Hojoman, he posts alot of topics regarding regulations and may have an anwser for you. Also are you still banging Browns at Boca? and how is Prosser fishing?

don't think there as much worried about clams as they are Quagga mussels...

clams dont pose as big of a threat as mussels because they mostly reside on the bottom. Mussels attached themselves to everything, including each other and they breed like cockroaches; and that is why those little bastards are such a pain in the ass!!

if there is some standing water inside the hull of my kayak (fresh or salt), I just put a few drops of beach to kill off any things that might be living in it.....

Hey thanks for the input. I think to stay on the safe side I'll just keep doing the drying for five days. Bleach is a great thought!

Last weekend I caught a bunch of Kokanee in stampede from the yak. Last night got a brown and a rainbow in Boca from shore. Today I got two twenty inch macks in Donner. I'm at the point where I probably won't post unless it is epic. Hehe

Any size to the kokes? I've never targeted them in the winter but am interested in seeing if they'll play. :smt001

I probably caught 5-10 kokes that day and kept two that were bleeding, both about 12 inches. That day was the first day I had ever caught any so I was happy to throw them in the smoker.

It's pretty awesome kayak fishing those lakes - during the best times of year I hardly ever see any other watercraft and still haven't seen any other kayak fishermen. Let me know if you ever give it a shot! I am planning on really figuring Boca and Stampede out.

While I understand the desire to nail the barn doors shut after the horse has escaped it is a crazy situation where the ONLY contaminated body of water that has been shut down is the Justo Reservoir so boats from southern CA and Arizona can continue to pick up the invaders and transport them to lakes and reservoirs.

I would bet that the primary mode of transport is in the live bait wells of fishing boats and avoiding the use of these would go a long way to minimizing the risk.
