Took my hotrod a mile down the beach north of the Mattole today to "Fish Bay".  Love that cart - it's more comfortable to haul it with all my dive gear and rods than backpacking it all.  I didn't end up putting the boat in the water - just wanted a workout.  Fished off the rocks for 15 minutes as the tide was falling rapidly toward a -1.8'.  Picked up a lady kelp greenling quick and then broke off a nice cab in the kelp - Argh!   :smt013  Fishing in 3' of water.  Fish Bay used to be so awesome - when I found it in the mid 90's dozen fish days were common from the rocks - saw a HUGE cabezone caught there by two guys who wouldn't talk to me - had to be 20# and could've been a state record.  That was the first day I fished there - I caught 3 or 4 greenling, an underling, a few olives, and two cabs that pushed 8-10#.  Since then it's been fished over pretty good, er, bad...  but it's still a great spot.  I bailed quick so I could cruise back up the coast toward the Cape where I played in the tidepools with my pole spear for 45 minutes until the sun set.  Got a cab and an olive as well as an 8.5" ab - fun day.

Got the she-trout pic for Seabreeze, but it didn't turn out that well...   :smt001

Blue:  the Mattole has been closed to all fishing in the fall up to the 1st of January each year and then it opens to C&R steelheading.  If it's coming back it's slow.  The logging interests that just about destroyed it are still active, but the community, especially in the upper reaches of the main stem, are very active and working hard to restore.  I wanted to drive up and see it yesterday, but was short on time - Honeydew got 8-10" of rain last week when I got about an inch in Loleta!

CUrious: can you break down the Rolleez with those big wheels and get them in the boat?
I cannot see leaving it on well-travelled beaches.

Roleez breakdown and stow:  I haven't tried it, and that beach is far from well-travelled, but I agree, I cannot see leaving it on the beach either.  Sean should have the answer to that.   :smt001

I smiled at the glow of the girlie fish.  Great new ab-sniffer pose too!

I have found mine to break down readily, and they will fit in the hatches of most yaks.  WAY too ez to jack, so I usually take mine.  As always, cool and intriguing report!

I would be to scared to leave a roleez on the beach. Too many sticky fingered people around today and too large of an investment.
