Reading all of Alan's reel repair/soup stuff got me busy.  I have a bunch of broken reels that I would like to fix so I can use or donate.

The first one was a daiwa magforce ma10g.  Yes it is old and crusty.  Yes it wasn't worth fixing etc.  But it was worthwhile because I didn't care if I totally destroyed it while fiddling around.

Basically its antireverse didn't work any more.  I broke it open and yup, it is crusty and not worth fixing (although in decent enough shape).  Not a bearing to be found, only bushings.  The antireverse is just a gravity operated dog and it had been misplaced in the unit when I first opened the reel like 10 years ago.  Fixed that and the reel now functions!  Cool.  Of course I could have done a lot more, but I was more interested in being able to break down a reel and rebuild it so it would work.  I'm waiting on my order of grease and oil and drag washers in anticipation of souping up my reels and now I have a lot more confidence.

Thanks Alan for all your support!

Nice work!  By "anti-reverse" do you mean that the reel was turning both forward and backward?  If so, I have a cheapo Big 5 special (big spinning reel) that is doing that.  Any tips?

Yes the spool would not stop so if you pulled on the line with the clutch engaged the handle would spin and line would go out.

What I think happened was that the anti reverse dog was mis rotated in the body of the reel and could not engage the antireverse sprocket.  Once I aligned things right it worked.

Why in the world they couldn't put in a spring is beyond me.  Funny, the ma15g has a spring, but not the ma10g.  Just pure cheapy design.

Once I clean it up more and lubricate it, it is going to be my PVC sabiki rod reel.

And to think, when I bought it in the eighties I thought it was a good reel...
