got this in my e-mail ,which then got me watching youtube videos...still not 100% sure I want one for that $$$ but It would be well worth it if it stopped a GWS from eating me or my gear... :smt003
I think it would be cool to have a pair for myself and my gals kayaks ...I wonder how long untill they start breaking down...saltwater kills stuff fast imo

We are what we pretend to be, so we must be careful about what we pretend to be.

I want to stay as close to the edge as I can without going over. Out on the edge you see all kinds of things you can't see from the center.

People aren’t supposed to look back. I’m certainly not going to do it anymore.”

also not sure about having that force field around the yak ...calling in curious sharks...or dragging the tail over stuff/kelp...

Keep in mind when the battery dies you have is to ship the unit to Florida where they'll charge you 300 bucks for a replacement shark shield

Hey that's not nice.

The cost is high but way more to buy a new kayak or pay medical bills.  I don't like the battery issue either.  Maybe they will make it replaceable by the user.  Then comes the issue of damaging it because it doesn't seal properly.  Then you would have to get a new one at full price.  I am on the fence on this one.

This year I had to replace an underwater camera and a spot gps unit because of water damage.  My sealed vhf radio has spent a lot of time in the water and is still kicking so something to be said about sealed battery compartments.

My first time using it I touched it while the both electrodes were in the water when I got a good buzz. From my left hand it involuntarily kicked my right leg into the air lol

I am not liking the sound of 2 surface interaction with the Shark Shield turned on. :smt009

So if you are paddling at high speed, the shark may still "interact" with your kayak, just not in a full breach.

From Shark Shield's own white paper: http://www.sharkshield.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/04/Shark_Shield_White_Paper_2014.pdf

Quote
A total of 116 trials using static bait were undertaken at the Neptune Islands, South Australia and 189 tows were conducted using a seal-decoy near Seal Island, South Africa. The proportion of baits taken during static bait trials was not affected by the deterrent. The deterrent increased the time it took to sharks to take the static bait, and the number of interactions per approach.

So if you are fishing in a kayak with your legs hanging over the side, this will probably not save your ass. It may just take the sharks longer to come in for a nibble.

While on the Islander, I tried it out on a couple small Mako's,  you would have thought the water was on fire…

Going ariel immediately…  I leave it off when fishing with others as the "calling of sharks" does make sense as sharks are attracted to electrical distress signal as we know…

I guess I'm in the club till I see the "Whites of it's eyes…" which most likely would be too late as the shield is not easily turned on. It takes a couple turns a very low set knob to get it on.. any panic and forget it...

If I hung one from a float tube, kayak, or banks board would I shock myself diving or is it only when you touch it in a certain way.

ya, ya have to touch it…

every now and then I forget it's there and grab it while my hands are in the water… ouch…  :smt010

it's not bad, but it will wake ya up…  the funnest thing is if I forget to turn it off or I have it on my sons or wife's boat and they make landfall without having off,,

the whole damn yak becomes electrified and many have had a good laugh at me trying to get the sucker tuned off… I finally realized it's just best to relaunch and shut it off on the water

I figure the big ones are moving along at great rate of speed when they are coming up from 60' -or so- to hit a surface prey/kayak.
I wonder how quick ,that much shark, can call off that momentum and  how far away they are when they detect the shields deterrent force?

I might as well buy and carry a rabbits foot for piece of mind- if this is all a shield is for surface going folks when dealing with a charging 4 thousand pound Shark.
